Description

General information:
At the department of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging (NMMI) radioactive tracers are used for the visualization of different processes within the human body. For example: osteoblast activity within bone metastases, myocardial perfusion, and the glucose metabolism of several types of cancers. In fact, each process taken place within the human body can be imaged using these tracers; both for the presence or extensiveness of diseases, and kinetics of medication. The department of NMMI is one of Europe’s leading centres in this field of expertise, and exceeds in patient care, research and new developments.

Student activities:
Voucher education
Within the next weeks new voucher projects will be presented. These projects are combinations of patient care, reporting scans and interactive discussions about the results. The projects can focus on one disease, for example lymphoma or myocardial ischemia. Visit the voucher website via https://voucher.med.rug.nl/

Profile education
This second year course is arranged twice per year. In groups of 3-4 students you will work on the future application of imaging modalities for three different diseases.

Semi-doctor internship
Internships are common on our department. Usually an internship on our department is combined with an internship on the department of Radiology, or Radiation Oncology. The focus during this internship will be on analysing scans. However, clinical decision making and performing some research are also stimulated.

Research project
Several research projects are available on the JSM website. These project are suitable for research projects in the second and third year of the bachelor. However, applying for a research master is always possible. Visit the JSM website via this link.
