Description

Plastic surgery is the medical specialism that involves creating and restoring the shape and function of the body through surgery. It revolves around the treatment of congenital or acquired bodily disfigurements and defects.

As a department of the UMCG we make it our mission to deliver high-end and safe care in essentially the entire field of plastic surgery. This applies to the monodisciplinary care as well as to the multidisciplinary care we deliver.

We are primarily at the service of the city of Groningen and the northern provinces, but when necessary at the disposal of the entire country. An important part of our activities is aimed at top referent and outstanding clinical care, that matches our key elements but we also deliver basic care and are 24 hours per day available for emergency cases. We engage fully in scientific research on a number of areas in our profession and thus rank in the forefront of our discipline.

We distinguish five themes within our specialism. These themes are present as key elements in our patient care activities, our research and the education of the next generation of plastic surgeons. The themes are:
- General plastic surgery
- Hand- and wrist surgery
- Mammasurgery
- Head-necksurgery
- Esthetic surgery
